Peru – G8 Rural Connectivity

Projecto Comunas Peru

This project is working to improve the transparency and efficiency of local municipal governments through the use of ICTs by helping them to adopt the Government of Peru’s software for financial management and procurement, and to solve related issues – a lack of access to the Internet and lack of facility with computing – in a way that proves to be economically sustainable. The use of Internet connectivity will also give citizens in rural communities greater access to information in order to increase transparency and hold government more accountable. (Web site)

Rwanda – National Election Commission Voter Registration and Verification Project

The National Election Commission Voter Registration and Verification project, part of the dot-ORG program, focused on helping the National Electoral Commission of Rwanda to enhance their use of ICT’s to manage the country's voter list. The project provided technical assistance, hardware, software, and staff training to support database development and management, assist the Commission to print high-quality voter registration cards, and improve communications between headquarters and the twelve provincial offices.

In addition, AED, worked with their partner Satelife and a private sector sponsor to pilot test the use of hand-held computers (PDAs) to improve to collect and verify voter registration data in two districts in Rwanda. Staff from the National Electoral Commission piloted PDAs which have the entire voter registration data for that district housed on them – once information has been changed or updated, it can be verified and sent back to the central server for speedy updating to the voter registration database.
